I was taken here by my sister during a trip to Vancouver. Great little restaurant - fresh, flavourful food, good drinks, good service, comfortable ambiance. What more can one say - a great place for an informal dinner. Highly recommended.

We came here for a birthday dinner and both fell in love with everything about the restaurant. It's simple, elegant, and cozy, with the chef on his feet checking in on diners and a wonderful staff. We scarfed down the escargot mushroom cap dish and the chef insisted we get an order of bread to soak up the remainders of the dish, which we happily did, and highly recommend. I ordered the steak cooked rare, it was absolutely delicious. And just when I thought I couldn't fit anything else, we ordered their beautiful cheesecake. It was a wonderful dining experience, and had the feel of a place that loves excellent food with a personal touch.

Just had a beef tenderloin at the Portly Chef. I requested it medium rare and they absolutely knocked it out of the park. I could have cut it with a spoon because it was so tender. The mushrooms were sauteed to perfection and the truffle oil finished them so well. My partner had stuffed chicken breast. It was juicy even though it was lightly breaded. The goat cheese was a great compliment. Great service, amazing food...I can wait to come back. Thank you to the establishment for an excellent night.Edit - May 28, 2018 - Went back again and I had to share this experience: We could not decide on the menu because we had so many options that sounded delicious. So we asked for, "three courses, please: 2 appetizers, followed by two appetizers, and then one entree to share." The answer: (literally) "1000% yes!" It's service like this and dishes that meld comfort, taste, and art that make this the premier choice on the North Shore. Also, it was the best Old fashioned I have ever had.

Fresh and flavorful. Beautifully cooked and presented. Service was good. Came back for dinner without a reservation. The place was packed, but we got a table and they didn't place us way in the back. Service was even better. Busy but they made the time for us and I never felt rushed.

WHERE DO YOU BEGIN?! This is truly a North Shore gem! Prime Lonsdale location with the PERFECT little patio seating area. Not only do they have the BEST - knowledgeable and friendly - staff and owners - the food is TO DIE FOR. Their food is traditional yet innovative and I promise you won't be disappointed! Support a fabulous local couple and their wonderful restaurant - I am so happy to have found this place!
